Malacañang kinuwestiyon ang motibo sa ulat ng Reuters

Pinasinungalingan ng Malacañang ang mga pahayag ng international media organization na Reuters, na hindi sumagot ang Office of the President (OP) sa kanilang mga katanungan kaugnay sa istoryang inilatahala nitong linggo.

Ito ay matapos magpahayag ang Reuters na walang sagot ang OP sa kanilang mga katanungan kaugnay sa istorya sa “Davao Boys,” isang grupo ng mga pulis na tubong Davao City na namumuno sa anti-drug unit ng Quezon City Police District Station 6 (QCPD-PS6).

Binatikos ni Office of the Presidential Spokesperson (OPS) assistant secretary Queenie Rodulfo ang mga pahayag ng Reuters sa ipinadalang pahayag sa Malacañang Press Corps nitong Huwebes ng gabi.

“I strongly denounce Reuters’ claim that the ‘President’s office never responded to our questions’ as untrue in so many levels,” ani Rodulfo.

Inamin ni Rodulfo, sa kanyang pahayag, na natanggap ng kanilang opisina ang email ng Reuters, at sinagot ito kahit na abala sila sa maraming mas mahahalagang bagay.

“While it is correct that Reuters sent the Office an email mid-last week questions regarding the Davao police, we have to bear in mind that there are more pressing matters that the Office has to attend to,” aniya.

Ang tinutukoy ni Rodulfo ay ang paghahanda ng OPS sa mamamayan sa paparating na bagyong “Urduja.”

“In the thick of things, the Office was able to find time in responding to Reuters’ questionnaire,” dagdag niya.

Kinuwestiyon din ni Rodulfo ang motibo ng Reuters sa paglathala sa istorya matapos sabihin na ang may-akda nito na si Clare Baldwin, ay ginipit siya para magbigay ng kasagutan sa loob ng isang oras habang sila ay nasa Biliran noong Martes.

“I wasn’t able to answer/saw a missed call since I was in Biliran – the province hardest hit by Typhoon Urduja -- in the middle of the sea, carried by a small boat on the way back to Tacloban. Is Ms. Baldwin’s story more important while I was in Ground Zero of Typhoon Urduja?” diin ni Rodulfo.

Sinabi ni Rodulfo, dating media practitioner, na nauunawaan niya na mayroong deadline ang mga mamamahayag ngunit “disturbing” ang sitwasyon.

“There is now a quandary on her motive: Is it to arrive at the truth? Or is it simply to embarrass the Administration? You don’t threat the government and put pressure to a government office if a request is not readily answered,” aniya.

“Height of arrogance and bad journalism ginawa niya. You don’t pressure and threaten someone just to get answers.”

Pinasinungalingan ng isang tagapagsalita ng Reuters ang mga sinabi ni Rodulfo. “The claim that Reuters gave the president’s office just an hour to respond is untrue,” sabi ng spokesperson sa text message.
