Dagdag-sahod sa teachers ‘di prioridad—DBM chief

Nilinaw kahapon ng Department of Budget and Management (DBM) na hindi prioridad ng gobyerno ang planong doblehin ang buwanang sahod ng mga public school teacher.

Ito ang nilinaw ng DBM isang araw makaraang ipinangako ng Malacañang na pagkatapos itaas ang suweldo ng mga pulis at sundalo ay isusunod na nitong bigyan ng pinakaaasam na umento ang mga guro.

Ayon kay Budget Secretary Benjamin E. Diokno, kailangan pang pag-aralang mabuti ang pagbibigay ng dagdagsahod sa mga guro, dahil gagastos ang pamahalaan ng aabot sa P500 bilyon kada taon para rito.

Aniya, hindi maaaring basta na lamang doblehin ng gobyerno ang sahod ng mga guro dahil may umiiral na Salary Standardization Law (SSL), na nagtriple na nga sa buwanang suweldo ng mga ito kumpara sa mga guro sa mga pribadong eskuwelahan.

“That needs a study because there are 600,000 teachers and I think the salaries alone of the teachers will take up a half a trillion—that involves the doubling of the salary of teachers. That is not our priority at this time,” sabi ni Diokno.

“What I am planning to do is have a study done by a third party or private sector to compare the salaries, just to validate prior to the SSL,” paliwanag ng kalihim.

Aniya, prioridad ngayon ng pamahalaan ang pagpopondo sa programang pang-imprastruktura na “Build, Build, Build” ng administrasyon.

“By the way, there is still two-years to go for the SSL, there’s about 15 percent to 16 percent increase in the salaries of teachers and there will be another round next year. I think the best time to see all the salary adjustment is after four years,” ani Diokno.

Sinabi nitong Martes ni Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque na inatasan ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte ang DBM na humanap ng paraan upang madagdagan din ang sahod ng mga guro, kasabay ng paghahanda sa pagsusumite sa Kongreso ng ikalawang tax reform package.

Dahil dito, nagpahayag kahapon ng kasiyahan si Alliance of Concerned Teachers (ACT) Party-list Rep. Antonio Tinio at ang may 30,000 miyembro na Teachers Dignity Coalition (TDC) sa naging pahayag ng Malacañang na dodoblehin ng pamahalaan ang sahod ng mga guro.
