Recruiters ni Demafelis pinasusuko

Pinasusuko ng Malacañang ang mga recruiter ni Joanna Demafelis, ang overseas Filipino worker (OFW) na natagpuang patay sa loob ng isang freezer sa Kuwait kamakailan.

Nilinaw ni Presidential Spokesman Harry Roque na kapag hindi sumuko sa pamahalaan ang mga ito ay maaari silang maaresto.

“He (President Duterte) wanted the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to question the recruiters because under our scheme, the local recruiters are actually ultimately liable for whatever happens to the Filipino deployed by the agencies for overseas. So that’s what the President wants to find out,” sinabi ni Roque sa press conference kahapon.

Maaari aniyang arestuhin at ikulong ng NBI ang mga ito para maimbestigahan kaugnay ng pagpatay sa 29-anyos na domestic helper.

“Of course, the fact that the NBI will ‘summon’ will entail the person coming in to the premises of the NBI. But if they will not appear, then they could be taken in for custody for investigation. But let’s see if they will voluntarily appear,” ani Roque.

Sa bisa ng Department Order (DO) No. 102, ipinag-utos kahapon ni Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II sa NBI na imbestigahan ang recruiter ni Demafelis, ang Our Lady of Mt. Armel Global E-Human Resources Inc.

Kasabay nito, sinabi ni Roque na nais ng Malacañang na agarang malitis at maparusahan ang mga naarestong employers ni Demafelis: ang Lebanese na si Nader Essam Assaf at ang Syrian na si Mona Hassoun.

Sa kabila nito, nananatili pa rin, aniya, ang deployment ban sa mga Pilipinong nais magtrabaho sa Kuwait, hanggang hindi natitiyak ang proteksiyon ng mga OFW sa nasabing bansa.

Nilinaw din ni Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III na nais ng Pangulo na mabigyan muna ng hustisya ang pagkamatay ni Demafelis bago pagusapan ang pagbawi sa deployment ban.
