Duterte ‘di dadalo sa ASEAN-Australia summit

Hindi dadalo si Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte sa Association Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) - Australia special summit sa susunod na linggo para sa asikasuhin ang maraming bagay dito sa bansa, kabilang ang pagdalo sa Philippine Military Academy (PMA) graduation, ipinahayag ng Malacañang kahapon.

Sinabi ni Presidential Spokesman Harry Roque na si Foreign Affairs Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano ang kakatawan sa Pangulo sa regional summit upang ipakita ang suporta ng bansa sa pagsisikap ng rehiyon na maisulong ang seguridad at inclusive development.

“The President regrets that he will be unable to attend the ASEAN-Australia summit this month. Developments at home continue to require the President’s presence in the Philippines,” sinabi ni Roque sa news conference sa Palasyo.

“One of the occasions the President will be attending will be the graduation of the Philippine Military Academy since he considers this graduation as an opportunity to dialogue with younger military officers particularly on the manner by which the Philippine government and military will deal with modern-day terrorism,” dugtong niya.

Nilalayon ng summit, dadaluhan ang mga lider ng ASEAN at Australia sa Sydney sa Marso 17 at 18, na palalimin ang economic cooperation at talakayin ang regional security. Ito ang unang pagkakataon na magiging punong abala ang Australia ng summit kasama ang ASEAN leaders sa Australia.

Sinabi ni Roque na itinuturing ng Pangulo na “very important” ang ASEAN-Australia kayat si Cayetano ang itinalaga bilang kanyang “special personal representative.”
