Akusasyon kay Corpuz, hindi pag-target sa UN rapporteurs—Palasyo

Siniguro ng Malacañang na ang petisyon na naglalayong iugnay si Filipino United Nations (UN) Special Rapporteur on Indigenous Peoples (IDPs) na si Victoria Tauli-Corpuz sa terorista ay hindi pag-target sa UN rapporteurs sa gitna ng tila tumatabang na relasyon ng Pilipinas at ng UN.

Ito ang ipinahayag ni Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque matapos hilingin ng UN experts sa Philippine Department of Justice (DoJ) na alisin ang pangalan nito mula sa listahan ng sinasabing 600 miyembro ng Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army (CPP-NPA), sa isang petisyon na humihiling sa korte na ideklarang grupo ng mga terorista ang samahan.

“We call on the Philippine authorities to immediately drop these unfounded accusations and to ensure [Corpuz’s] physical safety and that of others listed,” nakasaad sa UN statement, idinagdag na ang teroristang iniuugnay kay Corpuz ay isang “act of retaliation” ng gobyerno ng Pilipinas.

Sa press briefing sa Alimodian, Iloilo, sinabi ni Roque na ang petisyon ng DoJ ay sumusuporta lamang sa deklarasyon ng United States State Department at ng European Union na ang CPP-NPA ay grupo ng mga terorista.

“To begin with, the CPP-NPA had already been declared a terrorist group by the US State Department and by the European Union. This move, therefore, only reinforces the classification that the CPP-NPA is a terrorist group,” sabi ni Roque nitong Sabado ng hapon.

“Unfortunately, perhaps, the UN Special Rapporteur for IDPs or indigenous peoples Victoria TauliCorpuz, was also included because of intelligence information that she is somehow connected with the CPPNPA,” dagdag niya.

Ayon kay Roque, maaari itong magsilbing babala sa UN Human Rights Council (HRC) na higpitan ang selection process upang hindi makapasok ang isang hinihinalang miyembro ng grupo ng terorista.

“I assure everyone, including the international security, that this is not a witch hunt on UN Special Rapporteurs, instead, perhaps the UN rapporteur system should fine tune its selection process to ensure that individuals identified with terrorist groups are not given any mandate by the UN Human Rights Council,” aniya.
