PH binati si Pompeo, nagpasalamat kay Tillerson

Nagpaabot ng pagbati ang gobyerno ng Pilipinas kay Mike Pompeo sa pagkakatalaga sa kanya bilang bagong United States Secretary of State, at nagpahayag ng kasabikang makatrabaho siya upang higit na patatagin ang espesyal na relasyon ng Manila at Washington.

Sinabi ni Foreign Affairs Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano na tiwala ang bansa sa “more cooperation and collaboration with Washington with Secretary-designate Pompeo at the helm of the Department of State.”

Bago italagang State Secretary, si Pompeo ay hinirang na Director ng Central Intelligence Agency noong Enero 23, 2017, ni President Donald Trump. Dati siyang miyembro ng US House of Representatives para sa 4th congressional district (2011–17) ng Kansas. Naging bahagi rin siya ng Tea Party movement sa Republican Party.

Papalitan niya si Rex Tillerson bilang Secretary of State.

Sa parehong pahayag, pinapurihan naman ni Cayetano si Tillerson bilang mabuting kaibigan ng Pilipinas at sa mahalagang papel nito “in strengthening our relations with the United States during his term as Secretary of State.”

“We thank Secretary Tillerson for his friendship and the support he has extended to the Philippines and the Filipino people particularly during the period when our relations with the United States were facing challenges,” ani Cayetano. “We pray for the best for Secretary Tillerson in all his future endeavors.”
