Joint exploration sa WPS, tamang diskarte ni Duterte

Sinabi kahapon ni dating Senate President at Defense Minister Juan Ponce Enrile na ang paglulunsad ng joint exploration sa China para sa gas at oil sa West Philippine Sea (South China Sea) ay mas mainam na diskarte ng gobyernong Duterte sa pagdedebelop sa mga bagong mapagkukunan ng enerhiya.

Malakas pa sa edad na 95, sinabi ni Enrile na hindi maaaring igiit ng Pilipinas ang territorial rights nito sa WPS ‘’because it would not be respected.’’

Naglabas ang United Nations arbitral court ng desisyon na nagbabasura sa historical claim ng China sa halos buong SCS at pinapaboran ang pag-aangkin ng Pilipinas sa ilang mga isla sa Spratlys at Panatag (Scarborough) Shoal.

Ipinunto ni Enrile na kahit na ang Philippine (Benham) Rise ay pinakamagandang pagkakataon ng bansa para palakasin ang supply ng enerhiya, mayroon itong problema na kailangang harapin ng mga batang henerasyon.

Sinabi ni Enrile na tama ang direksiyon ni Pangulong Duterte sa pagpanukala ng joint exploration sa China para sa hydrocarbons sa WPS.

‘’We cannot insist on our rights. Yes, we have the rights but will those rights be respected by a country like China? My God, even if you put together Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand and the rest, they cannot equal the firepower of China,’’ aniya.

‘’The military power is not there. That is why the direction of President Duterte to do it diplomatically instead of raising the Philippine flag and say ‘this is my territory,’ the conciliatory and enter into a joint venture is the better approach,’’ dugtong niya.
