Employment ban sa Kuwait

Gagawing permanente ng Pilipinas ang ban sa pagpapadala ng mga manggagawa sa Kuwait, kinumpirma kahapon ni Pangulong Duterte.

Inako rin ni Duterte ang responsibilidad sa hidwaan sa pagitan ng Pilipinas at ng Kuwait dahil sa pagsagip ng mga distressed Filipino workers sa naturang bansa sa Middle East.

Ipinangako rin niya na hahanapan ng mapagtatrabuhan sa ibang lugar, tulad ng China at Japan, ang mga Pilipinong nawalan ng trabaho sa Kuwait.

Maaari ring gamitin ng pamahalaan ang P4 bilyon tulong mula sa China upang matulungan ang naagrabyadong mga manggagawa sa Kuwait, sabi niya sa isang press conference sa Davao City, kahapon madaling araw. Galing siya sa Singapore kung saan ginanap ang ASEAN summit.

“The ban stays permanently. There will be no more recruitment for --- especially domestic helpers. Wala na,” ani Duterte.

Kamakailan lang, nagmungkahi ang Pilipinas at Kuwait na proteksiyunan ang Filipino workers sa Kuwait, matapos lumabas ang mga balita ng pang-aabuso sa OFWs doon.

Maaaring mabitin ngayon ang kasunduan matapos iprotesta ng Kuwait ang pag-rescue ng mga kawani ng Philippine embassy sa ilang OFWs inaabuso umano ng kanilang mga amo.

“At the end of the day, I’d like to thank the government of Kuwait. It was all my responsibility. I should be the one to be blamed and I’m ready to accept it,” sabi ni Duterte.

Paliwanag niya, hindi siya nagtatanim ng galit sa Kuwait at nagpapasalamat siya dahil napakaraming Pilipino ang nabigyan ng pagkakataong makapagtrabaho roon.

“There are a lot of guys working there for so many years to enable their children to study and finish. And for that matter alone, the sheer help that we had. I’m grateful,” aniya.

Muli niyang sinuyo ang mga natitirang Pilipino sa Kuwait na umuwi na. “For Filipino household service workers, if your Kuwaiti employers want you to leave, then please come home. Your government will do its best to help you return and resettle. I appeal to your sense of patriotism and to your love of country and family,” saad ng Pangulo.

“For the household workers whose employers want them to stay, that is their choice, but choose the better option. All I ask is that the employers treat the Filipinos with the humanity they deserve. Please do not abuse Filipino workers,” dagdag niya.

Sinabi niyang interesado ang China na kumuha ng 100,000 English teachers mula sa Pilipinas.

Sa Japan ay nangangailanan ng caretaker, sabi niya.

“My only concern now is to get back the Filipinos, mauwi rito. And I would spend the entire four point something billion to get about,” aniya. “There are about 700 guys who are in the temporary shelters seeking sanctuary. We will spend that money. All of it. To the last --- kahit na last na piso natin to get them back.”
