Ban hanggang walang MOU— Malacañang

Interesado pa rin ang Pilipinas sa pagbuo ng kasunduang magbibigayproteksiyon sa mga Pilipinong manggagawa sa Kuwait.

Ito ang pag-amin kahapon ni Presidential Spokesman Harry Roque sa gitna ng umiiral na diplomatic conflict sa pagitan ng dalawang bansa.

Nilinaw ni Roque na ipinatutupad pa rin ng pamahalaan ang deployment ban hanggang wala pang malinaw na kasunduan ang mga opisyal ng dalawang bansa para sa kapakanan ng mga Pilipino sa Kuwait.

“On Kuwait, what the President announced is the maintenance of the status quo. Until we have reached or signed a memorandum of agreement providing for the minimum terms and conditions of the employment of our nationals, the deployment, the ban stays,” aniya.

“Is this (ban) permanent as reported as reported by some media outfit? Well, let’s just say it stays right now because the precondition set by the President is really the signing of that memorandum of agreement,” dagdag pa ni Roque.

Umaasa naman si Roque na mareresolba rin ang usapin dahil nakatakdang bumisita sa Kuwait si Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III at iba pang miyembro ng Gabinete sa Mayo 7.

“Alam mo ugali talaga ng Presidente ‘yan. ‘The buck stops with me so blame me for whatever is necessary’ but the bottom line is we cannot afford another Demafelis,” sabi pa ni Roque.

Nabatid na plano ng Malacañang na ilagay sa mga construction project ng pamahalaan ang mga pinauuwing overseas Filipino worker (OFW) sa Kuwait.

Naniniwala naman si Senate President Aquilino Pimentel III na kailangang magpasaklolo ng Pilipinas sa ibang bansa para maibalik sa dati ang ugnayan nito sa Kuwait.

“There are many OFWs in the region (Middle East). Perhaps we can ask the help of Saudi Arabia or Qatar to act as our intermediaries with the Kuwaitis,” sabi ni Pimentel.
