Mas maunlad na language training institute para sa mga OFWs

matulungan ang mga overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) na makahanap ng mas magandang trabaho, plano ng Technical Education and Skills developmen­t Authority (TESDA) na palakasin ang Language Skills Institutes (LSIs) nito sa buong bansa at magdagdag ng ilan pang language courses.

“(TESDA) Director General Guiling Mamondiong told us that we need to prioritize (the LSIs) to help prevent OFWs from being maltreated,” pahayag ni TESDA informatio­n officer Nina Dodd nitong Martes.

Ayon pa kay Dodd, ang LSI ng ahensiya ay nilikha para sa trabaho, lalo’t nagtuturo rin ang ahensiya sa mga OFW ng iba’t ibang kultura.

Sa ngayon, may 37 LSI na sa buong bansa kabilang ang National LSI sa Bicutan, Taguig City na nagtuturo ng Mandarin, English, Nihongo, Korean at Arabic na lengguwahe.

“The problem is that we need more language trainers for these centers. Also, most of our LSI teachers are teaching English. We need more trainers for other languages,” ani Dodd.

Sa kagustuhan ni Mamondiong na mapalakas ang kakayahan ng LSI, hindi lamang tatanggap ng mas maraming guro ang TESDA, dahil magdaragda­g din ang ahensiya ng ilang language courses kabilang German, Mandarin, Taiwanese, Italian, Spanish, at Bahasa Indonesia.

“The NLSI celebrated its 10th year last November. This has been offering more language courses than in the regional LSIs. He wants to boost the capacity of all LSIs nationwide,” sabi ni Dodd.

Inatasan naman ang lahat ng LSI, lalo na ang mga nasa rehiyon, na alamin ang mga bansang madalas puntahan ng mga OFW sa kanilang mga lugar upang matukoy ang indemand na language at culture training courses.

Samantala, may requiremen­t ang TESDA para sa mga nais mag-apply bilang language trainers. Narito ang mga sumusunod na requiremen­t: bachelor’s degree; one-year experience in teaching language; TESDA Trainers Methodolog­y Level 1 Certificat­ion; computer literacy (with background in Microsoft applicatio­ns such as PowerPoint, Word, and Excel), good oral and written communicat­ion skills; good coaching skills; fluency in English and in their local dialect; with A1 (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) or equivalent of language proficienc­y; and work visa status for expats.
