Cebu, handa na sa 8,000 atleta sa PNG

CEBU CITY – Hindi kukulangin sa 8,000 atleta mula sa 100 local government units (LGUs) ang makikiisa sa 2018 Philippine National Games (PNG) dito.

Inimbitahan bilang guest speaker si Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte sa opening ceremony bukas sa Cebu City Sports Center, ayon kay Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) Commissioner at project head Ramon ‘El Presidente’ Fernandez.

Magsisimula ang aksiyon sa Linggo at magtatapos sa Mayo 25 sa ibalt ibang venue sa Cebu City at karatig na lungsod na Danao City, Lapu-Lapu City, Naga City, gayundin sa bayan ng Tabuelan at Minglanilla.

Ipinahayag ni Fernandez sa press conference kahapon na may 96 LGUs ang sasabak sa 22 sporting events.

“We envision to make PNG as the Philippine Olympics. This will serve as one of the qualifying tournaments for athletes who aspire to become a member of the national team,” pahayag ni Fernandez.

“But we are accepting athletes below 16 years old if they are competing in non-contact sports. We want to give these budding athletes an excellent exposure since they will be going up against some of the members of the national team,” aniya.

Ang torneo ay para sa kabataang may edad 16 pataas.

May naghihintay na insentibong P5 milyon sa magiging kampeon na LGU na magagamit sa pagsasanay ng mga atleta para sa mga susunod na torneo maging lokal at abroad.

Naghihintay naman ang P4 milyon, P3 milyon, P2 milyon at P1 milyon a susunod na top three LGUs.

Nakikipagtulungan sa kaganapan ng torneo ang Cebu Provincial Sports Commission (CPSC) at Cebu City Sports Commission (CCSC).

“We are excited and happy to be part of this huge event,” pahayag ni CCSC chairman Ed Hayco.

Sinabi ni CPSC executive director Ramil Abing na siniguro nilang maibibigay ng tama ang kinakailagan ng mga kalahok at bisita tulad ng athletes billeting quarters, playing venues, security, traffic at medical.

Ito ang unang pagkakataon mula noong 1997 na naging host ang Cebu City sa PNG.
