Drug test sa QC schools, sinuportahan

Suportado ng dalawang senador ang panukalang pagsasagawa ng mandatory drug test sa mga pampublikong high school at kolehiyo sa Quezon City basta tiyakin lamang ang proteksiyon ng mga bata.

Paliwanag kahapon ni Senate President Vicente Sotto III, dating vice mayor ng lungsod, wala siyang tutol sa nasabing drug test na iminungkahi ni Vice Mayor Joy Belmonte, kahit mayroon o walang pahintulot ng mga magulang ng mga estudyante.

Ang panukala ni Belmonte ay kasunod ng report ng Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) na nagsasaad na ang Quezon City ay “100 percent drug affectation” sa lahat ng school level, kabilang na ang elementarya.

Ipinagtanggol din ni Sotto ang hakbang dahil alinsunod lamang umano ito sa Republic Act 9165 (Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002).

“That it is part of the ‘preventive education campaign’ mandated by RA 9165. Under the law, students of secondary and tertiary schools pursuant to the related rules and regulations as contained in the school’s student handbook and with notice to the parents, undergo a random drug testing,” pahayag ng senador.

Sang-ayon din si Senator Grace Poe basta gagawin “properly” ang drug test nang may “transparency”.

“I agree, for as long as the tests are done with transparency and handled properly, with the appropriate level of privacy. The test facilitators should take care to label samples acurately, so there are no mix-ups,” ani Poe.
