Cycling ‘Super Team’, asa ng Olympic slot

BALAK ng Philippine Cycling Federation na magbuo ng ‘Super Team’ na ihahanda para sa qualifying tournament ng Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

Binigyan ng go signal ni PhilCycling President Abraham “Bambol” Tolentino ang pagbuo ng “Super Team” kasabay ng pagpapatupad ng mahigpit at kombrehensibong criteria sa pagpili ng mga miyembro ng team.

“We have one full year of achieving a goal of qualifying a Filipino cyclist to the Tokyo Olympics and we want to put together the best of the best on the national team,” pahayag ni Tolentino.

Kabilang sa criteria na itinakda ni Tolentino sa pagpili ng magiging miyembro ng team ang performance ng siklista sa International Cycling Union (UCI) races, continental at national championships at domestic events gayundin ang Asian at world ranking bukod sa taglay na attitude at disiplina.

“The PhilCycling will scrutinize the cyclists’ credentials and from there, a selection committee in the federation would determine the composition of the team,” sambit ni Tolentino, chairman din ng Philippine Olympic Committee.

Bukod dito, magsasagawa rin ang PhilCycling ng major reorganization ng kanilang national road and track team para sa men and women.

Sa Road Cycling Qualification System para sa 32nd Olympiad sa Tokyo, itinakda ang road race roster sa 128 sa men at 65 sa women kung saan ang Top 50 national Olympic committees (countries) ay may tig-isang slot .

Ang gold medal winner sa continental championships sa susunod na taon — sa Asian Cycling Championship sa Uzbekistan ay may awtomatikong berth para sa Tokyo Games.

.“We will make sure that we won’t let this opportunity slip our hands,” ani Tolentino.

Ang Pilipinas ay kasalukuyang No. 12 sa Asia Tour taglay ang 217 ranking points, ngunit nasa labas ng top 50 ng UCI world rankings sa kasalukuyan sa ranggong 69th.
