Pinoy students wagi ng science prize

Ipinagmamalaki ng Department of Education (DepEd) ang mga estudyante ng dalawang Science High Schools sa Pilipinas na nagwagi sa international science competition sa Hong Kong.

“We are thankful to our students, as well as their teachers, for bringing pride and honor to the country especially in the field of Science and Technology,” sinabi ni Education Secretary Leonor Briones.

Nangibabaw ang mga estudyanteng Pilipino sa Hong Kong Students Science Project Competition (HKSSPC) na ginanap kamakailan sa Hong Kong Science Park.

Sina Neil David Cayanan at Lucia Dizon ng Angeles City Science High School (ACSHS) sa Pampanga ay ginawaran ng first prize sa International Division para sa kanilang proyekto na pinamagatang, “Verde: An Edible Alternative to Plastic Cutlery.”

Nag-uwi rin ng first prize sina Felix Arthur Diosos at Coleen Quirim, ng Philippine Science High School-Southern Mindanao Campus (PSHS-SMC) sa Davao, para sa kanilang project na, “Pectin-carboxymethylcellulose Biocapsule for Potential Colon Targeted Oral Drug Delivery.”

Isa pang grupo ng mga estudyante mula sa PSHS-SMC, sina Harriet Elaine Limpot at Yyoni Xandria Marie Tiu, ang nakakuha ng second prize sa parehong division para sa kanilang project na, “GIS-based Suitability Analysis of Possible Nesting Sites of the Pithecophaga jefferyi at Apo Forests.”

Tinalo ng Philippine delegates ang mga kalaban mula sa Thailand, United States, Singapore, Turkmenistan, Macau China, at iba pang mga bansa.

Dalawa pang teams mula sa ACSHS ang naging finalists – sina Shaira Gozun at E’van Relle Tongol, at Francine Icban at Ana Sofia Diaz .
