240,000 katao ang lumagda sa petisyon na humihiling sa Disney na muling i-hire ang Guardians of the Galaxy franchise director na si James Gunn, na nakatanggap din ng suporta mula sa mga celebrity ilang araw matapos siyang sibakin dahil sa mga lumang offensive tweets.
“I’m smart enough to know this most likely won’t change anything but hopefully, this could get Disney to realize the mistake they made and not do it again in the future,” lahad ng nagngangalang

“I agree on the point that if people say a bunch of stupid shit while working for a studio, the studio has full right to fire him over the possible controversy.
“This situation is very different, though, as he made these jokes years before he was working for Disney and also the fact that they were jokes.”
Ayon sa argumento ni Chandler, kung naparusahan si James sa pamamagitan ng pagtatanggal dito sa ikatlong installment ng popular na series, “you have to do it for all the other directors who have said some crappy joke sometime in their life, which is all of them.”
Ang tweets, na ipinost noong 2008 at 2011, ay biro tungkol sa taboo topics gaya ng rape at pedophilia.
Si Gunn, 51, ay isang outspoken critic ni President Donald Trump, na naging sanhi upang busisiin ng mga conservative critics ang kanyang timeline at tweets. Makaraang kumalat ulit ang mga offensive tweet nitong Huwebes, ginamit ni Gunn ang micro- blogging platform upang sabihin na, “I’ve developed as a person, so has my work and my humor” makaraang maging “provocateur” noong mga naunang taon. Binura na ni James ang kanyang account, at inilarawan niya ang kanyang sarili bilang “a very, very different (person)” kumpara sa dating siya, nang ipinost niya ang tweets. Si James ang direktor ng dalawang Guardians of the Galaxy film. Ang ikatlong pelikula sa series ay nakatakdang ipalabas sa 2020. Sinibak si James kasunod ng pagpapatalsik ng Disney television network na ABC kay Roseanne Barr sa sitcom na Roseanne, dahil sa racist tweet tungkol kay dating White House aide Valerie Jarrett.
