R500-milyon water system para sa Iloilo City

MAINIT na tinanggap ng lokal na pamahalaan ng Iloilo City ang pagbubukas ng P500-milyon water system project ng South Balibago Resources, Inc. (SBRI) sa distrito ng Jaro. Sa kanyang mensahe, sinabi ni Mayor Jose Espinosa III na dumaan sa mahabang diskusyon ang proyekto bago ipinagkaloob ang prangkisa sa SBRI upang makapagpatakbo ng isang water system sa Jaro, sa pamamagitan ng Sangguniang Panlungsod.

Kabilang ang lungsod ng Iloilo sa mga franchise area ng Metro Iloilo Water District (MIWD), na sumasaklaw din sa pitong iba pang munisipalidad sa probinsiya.

“I was of the opinion that under the present state, we should have water in Iloilo City because MIWD is only serving 21 percent of the total requirement of this city and we are expanding,” pahayag ng alkalde. “Water is a very vital resource that we should have in our communities, and to a booming city like ours.”

Bahagi ng P500-milyon proyekto ang 10,000-cubic-meter-per-day water treatment plant sa Barangay Bongco sa Pototan; isang 17-kilometrong primary transmission line; at 100-kilometrong distribution pipeline sa 34 na subdibisyon at tatlong barangay sa Jaro.

Sa kasalukuyan, kayang pagsilbihan ng planta ang nasa 12,000 bahay at establisyemento.

Ayon kay Criselle P. Alejandro, pangulo ng SBRI, napagdesisyunan nilang magsimula sa Jaro, dahil walang pipeline ng MIWD sa lugar.

“We decided to start with Jaro district so that we are not directly competing with them. I know they have some pipelines here but on the main roads and the subdivisions where they do have pipelines, we do not enter those,” aniya.

Sa ngayon, kabilang sa mga “energized” barangay ang Buntatala, Tagbak, Camalig at Balantang. May magagamit na ring tubig sa mga relocation site ng lungsod kabilang ang Barangays Buntatala Zone 3, Sta. Rosa Subdivision, Landheights Ville Subdivision, Landheights 3 Phase 1, Landheights Phase 2, San Jose Subdivision, Lauan-Village, Dolmax Subdivision, Aseco Subdivision, at Villa Ofelia Subdivision.

“We are continuously expanding to the other barangays from this point onwards,” dagdag pa ni Alejandro.

Inaasahan namang tataas sa 20 milyong litro kada araw ang maisu-supply ng planta sa patuloy na pagpapalawak sa proyekto, na magsisilbi sa mahigit 24,000 bahay.

Samantala, siniguro naman ni Angel Gomez Reino, country manager ng INCLAM South East Asia, ang kumpanyang nagtayo ng treatment plant, na maayos at malinis ang kalidad ng tubig.

“We are very confident that our technology will prove that the quality of water that comes from the Jalaur River is properly treated. The households and final customers in Jaro district will not only have high-quality service but also high-quality water,” aniya.
