NAIA may ‘security issues’—US
Naglabas ang United States, sa pamamagitan ng Department of Homeland Security (DHS), ng advisory na nagpapahayag ng pangamba sa mga isyu ng flight security sa Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).
Sa advisory na inilabas nitong Miyerkules, sinabi ng DHS na ang pangunahing paliparan ng bansa “does not maintain and carry out effective security consistent with the security standards established by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).” Kahapon, naglabas ng pahayag si US Ambassador to the Philippines Sung Kim na nagsasabing mahigpit na nakikipagtulungan ang kanyang gobyerno sa transport agencies sa Pilipinas at inaasahan nila na kaagad na maaabot ng Manila airport ang ICAO security standards.
“We are collaborating closely with the Philippines Department of Transportation and related agencies, and have every confidence in their leadership and their commitment to improve aviation security. Philippine authorities have worked diligently to improve security measures and we fully expect that they will soon meet ICAO security standards,” ani Kim.
Ayon pa kay Kim, aktibong sinusuportahan ng US ang mga pagsisikap ng Pilipinas na mapabuti ang seguridad, binanggit ang pag-apruba ng State Department sa US$5 milyon para sa airport security improvements sa NAIA na kabibilangan ng critical training at technology improvements.
Bukod dito nagkaloob ang US Transportation Security Administration (TSA) ng Aviation Security Advisors sa gobyerno ng Pilipinas para tumulong sa pagdebelop at pagpapatupad ng “corrective measures” sa NAIA.
Sa ilalim ng huling advisory, ang lahat ng airlines na nag-iisyu ng flights sa pagitan ng United States at Manila ay kailangang impormahan ang mga pasahero sa pamamagitan ng liham tungkol sa babala.
Idi-display rin ang travel notice sa lahat ng US airports na mayroong regular flights sa kabisera ng Pilipinas.
