Late-night tweeting, may epekto sa performanc­e ng basketball players?

NAPAG-ALAMAN sa bagong pag-aaral na maaaring makaiskor at makakuha ng rebounds nang kauntiang mga propesyuna­l na atleta araw matapos ang late-night activity sa Twitter.

Pinag-aralan ng mga sleep researcher­s ang game performanc­e upang kanilang maunawaan kung paano nakaaapekt­o ang late-night social media use at kulang na tulog sa trabaho at physical performanc­e ng mga atleta sa susunod na araw.

“Most of us have these devices in our bedrooms and beds, and they interfere with our bedtime routines, keep us up at night and reduce our sleep quality,” lahad ni Lauren Hale ng Stony Brook University sa New York, sa Reuters Health.

Inalisa ng grupo ni Hale ang timestampe­d tweets ng 112 NBA players sa pagitan noong 2009 hanggang 2016 at sinuri nila ang ext-day points scored, rebounds, minutes played per game, turnovers, fouls at shooting accuracy ng mga ito. Para maiwasan ang mga potensyal na epekto ng pag-travel o jetlag, inalisa lamang nila ang mga laro kung saan “East Coast players played East Coast players and West Coast players played West Coast players”. Tinukoy nila ang “late-night tweeting” bilang aktibidad kung gagawin mula 11 p.m. hanggang 7 a.m.

Natuklasan din nila na ang latenight tweeting ay may kaugnayan sa pagkakaroo­n ng mas kaunting puntos na naitatala at mas kaunting rebounds nang sumunod na araw.

Nagpatuloy ang pattern nang suriin lamang ng mga mananaliks­ik ang mga tweet na ipinost sa pagitan ng 2 a.m. at 6 a.m. At mas apektado ang mga player na madalang mag-tweet ng malalim na ang gabi kaysa mga player na palagi nang late matulog dahil sa paggamit ng social media.

Hindi kayang patunayan ng pagaaral na na ang late-night social media activity ay sanhi ng mga nabanggit na resulta. Bilang kaugnayan sa kaunting bilang ng oras ng paglalaro, halimbawa, “Maybe the coach sensed they were off, but maybe the player already knew they weren’t going to play much, and that’s why they stayed up late the night before the game,” sabi ni Hale.

“We all need to sleep well and function during the day,” aniya. “This (study in pro athletes) was a way to look at sleep and functionin­g in a way that speaks to a broader audience.”
