GMA’s new media arm posts strong revenues
GMA Network, Inc. reported a 327% surge in profit from its new media arm as of end-November on increased sales and higher advertising revenue.
Consolidated profits of GMA New Media, Inc. (NMI) reached P37.4 million from the same 11-month period in 2015, the listed broadcast giant said in a statement on Monday.
GMA’s technology arm grew its consolidated revenues in the January to November period by 50% to P249.6 million, lifted by implementation of efforts such as optimization of revenue sources, including content partnerships.
GMA NMI’s online advertising revenues rose 73% to P124 million, driven by programmatic advertising and online partners which contributed P99.3 million.
Revenues from YouTube went up by 94% to $700,000, as its YouTube channel saw a rise in views and traffic. Revenues from partners Hooq and iflix also jumped 218% year to date.
“Partnering with various industry entities such as online industry leaders Facebook and YouTube has proven to be an effective strategy for GMA NMI this year. These partnerships, in addition to opening new revenue streams, are beneficial in terms of strengthening GMA’s online presence particularly among the millennial market,” said GMA NMI President and Chief Operating Officer Judd I. Gallares was quoted as saying.
At the same time, GMA NMI subsidiary MediaMerge’s net income surged 101% during the 11-month period, although no details were given. —
