UAAP women’s volleyball schedule now out
THE volleyball season in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) kicks off on Feb. 4, and in relation to it the league recently released the schedule for women’s play in the first round.
Setting things up on opening day at the Smart Araneta Coliseum is the encounter between National University ( NU) Lady Bulldogs and University of the East (UE) Lady Warriors at 2 p.m. to be followed by the Ateneo Lady Eagles against the University of Santo Tomas (UST) Tigresses at 4 p.m.
The four other teams make their debuts the following day also at the Big Dome with the University of the Philippines (UP) Lady Maroons taking on the Adamson Lady Falcons at 2 p.m. and the defending champions De La Salle Lady Archers facing off SEASON 79 of UAAP women’s volleyball begins on Feb. 4 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum. with the Far Eastern University (FEU) Lady Tamaraws at 4 p.m. in a rematch of their final four encounter last year.
The much-improved Lady Maroons, which made it to the semifinals last year, returns on Feb. 8 against the Lady Archers while the latter conclude a busy opening week for them with a tussle against the Tigresses on Feb. 11.
Season 78 final four cast members Ateneo and FEU will meet for the first time in Season 79 on Feb. 12.
UST engages UE in a battle of University Belt residents on Feb. 15 while the “avian clash” between Adamson and Ateneo happens on Feb. 18.
The “Battle of Katipunan” of Ateneo and UP, meanwhile, happens on Feb. 26 at 4 p.m. Incidentally, the two teams met in the semifinals last year where Ateneo saw no need to use its twice-tobeat advantage by beating UP at the first instance.
The much-awaited reengagement of Season 78 finals protagonists and archrivals La Salle and Ateneo takes place on March 4 at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Despite finishing second after the elimination round last year with an 11- 3 record, the Lady Archers defeated the top-seeded Lady Eagles (12-2) in the finals, taking the best- of- three series, 2-1.
The first round of elimination play comes to an end on March 5 at the Mall of Asia Arena with UE engaging Adamson at 2 p.m. and UP taking on NU at 4 p.m.
