It’s a Swoosh for world no. 1 Jason Day
WORLD number one-ranked golfer Jason Day added a new golfing partner recently, signing a multi-year deal to be one of the faces of Nike Golf.
Under the new partnership, Filipino- Australian Day will don Nike’s footwear, apparel, headwear and gloves as he competes, beginning at the recent Tournament of Champions in Kapalua, Hawaii.
The Nike deal further highlighted Mr. Day’s standing as one of the top stars in the sport that has seen him conquer many top tournaments in the last couple of years.
The 28-year- old Day closed 2015 with four wins in his final seven starts, including his first major title with a record-breaking 20- under- par performance at the PGA Championship.
That momentum carried over into 2016, with Mr. Day notching three wins — including coveted titles at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, the WGCDell Match Play and The Players Championship.
Since turning pro 10 years ago, Mr. Day has secured 10 PGA Tour titles and 57 top-10 finishes.
“Joining Nike is a dream come true. The brand is synonymous with the world’s best athletes. I’m honored and can’t wait to be part of the team and working closely with Nike to take my game, and the sport of golf, to even higher levels,” said the Ohio resident Day.
Equally excited to having Mr. Day in its fold, joining the likes of Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy, is Nike Golf which sees it enhancing some more the brand.
“We’re thrilled to welcome Jason to the Nike Golf team and our family of athletes. He’s an incredible player who has demonstrated tremendous work ethic and amazing resilience over the course of his career. We’re excited to help him chase more championships in the coming years,” said Daric Ashford, President of Nike Golf.
Apart from said golfers, also part of the Nike family athletes are basketball stars LeBron James, Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant, tennis players Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal, and footballer Cristiano Ronaldo.
Mr. Day is expected to see action next at the Farmers Insurance Open in the San Diego area at Torrey Pines later this month. —
