PwC, BCYF to recognize developmental social enterprises

ISLA LIPANA & Co., the Philippine member fi rm of the PwC global network ( PwC Philippines), and CSR thought leader Benita & Catalino Yap Foundation ( BCY Foundation) jointly launched the third year of the Developmental Social Enterprise Awards ( DSE Awards).

The DSE Awards aims to recognize Filipino businesses committed to social objectives through its enterprise activities. PwC and BCYF are looking for businesses that embody the values of citizenship, sustainability and social responsibility that put central importance on human dignity.

Alexander Cabrera, chairman and senior partner of PwC Philippines, said: “We at PwC are sustaining our momentum in supporting these developmental social enterprises (DSEs). We’ve seen firsthand how they spark inclusion and development in the marginalized sector. We can help more enterprises and are more than excited to be part of their growth.”

“This year’s awards will be more about the stories behind each DSE and the impact they have made so far. It is important to know how change was made even if the enterprises fi nd measuring their impact challenging,” said Antonio Yap, chairman of the BCY Foundation.

“It is also important to find out how these DSEs balance social and financial values, which showcase their business acumen and drive to solve important problems,” Mr. Cabrera added.

Launched in 2014, DSEA has produced top winners Ecosystems Work for Essential Benefits, Inc. (ECOWEB) in 2015, and ANTHILL (Alternative Nest and Trading/ Training Hub for Indigenous/ Ingenious Little Livelihood seekers) Fabric Gallery in 2016.

The DSE Awards is looking for social enterprises (corporation, partnership or individual) in the Philippines in operation for at least two years. DSEs may apply at www. dseawards.com. A panel of judges representing different sectors (e.g., academe, social enterprise network group, government, private business and media), will select the finalists and top winner. Deadline of submission of entries is on April 21. The awarding ceremony will be held on June 1.
