- Arra B. Francia

FRESH law graduates received the highest salary offers in 2016, trumping information and technology (IT), the average advertised rate for which had topped the previous two years, according to online advertising platform Jobstreet.com.

According to the company’s 2017 Fresh Graduate Salary and Job Trends Report, advertised entry-level pay for fresh graduates of law and legal services averaged P27,124 in the fourth quarter of last year, up 28% from the same period of the previous year.

The survey report was based on unique job postings that were published in JobStreet.com between October and December 2016.

Degree holders in health care-related services and journalism ranked second and third, with monthly job offers averaging P23,216 and P21,777, respectively. Job offers for fresh graduates in IT dropped to the fourth place with P21,703, lower than the average of P22,567 in 2015.

The biggest increase in advertised rates however went to fresh graduates in education, who were offered a monthly salary of P21,457 on average, up 59% from the P13,459 in the previous year.

Jobstreet.com Country Manager Philip A. Gioca said more education graduates are now being enticed to be educators instead of entering jobs not related to their field.

Besides education majors, fresh graduates in the fields of banking and advertising also entered the top 10 advertised job offers after witnessing jumps of 15% and 7% to P20,092 and P19,960, respectively, from the previous year’s averages.

“There was a very sharp increase in terms of how they were paid… employers want to attract specialized jobs in these fields, so it rose significantly,” Mr. Gioca said in a press briefing yesterday in Bonifacio Global City.

Others in the top 10 were fresh graduates in actuarial science/ statistics ( P21,048), training and development ( P20,838) and public relations/ communications (P20,055).—
