Britney is coming to Manila

-

US SINGER Britney Spears will be performing for the first time in Manila this June.

The concert is set for June 15 at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

The pop superstar first and second albums — ...Baby One More Time (1999) and Oops!...I Did It Again (2000) — produced generationdefining hits, blazing through the global charts and breaking records.

The singer and actress has earned six Billboard Music Awards and Billboard’s Millennium Award — which recognizes outstanding career achievements and influence in the music industry — as well as an American Music Award and the 2011 MTV Video Vanguard Award. So far, Ms. Spears has had six albums which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart, and 22 Top 40 hit singles on the Billboard Hot 100 — four of which went to No. 1. Ms. Spears has been nominated for eight Grammy Awards and won for Best Dance Recording in 2005.

“Baby One More Time” went to the top of the Billboard Hot 100 charts, sold more than 20 million copies worldwide, and is currently 14-times Platinum in the US.

Her fourth studio album, In the Zone (2003), saw Ms. Spears take creative control and spawned the single “Toxic,” which gave her her first Grammy Award for best dance recording.

The so- called “Pop Princess” now has nearly 150 million records worldwide and has sold more than 70 million albums, singles, and songs in the US alone, according to Nielsen Music.

Though troubled by a failed marriage and other personal issues at the time, Ms. Spears released an album in 2007, Blackout, which spawned successful singles such as “Piece of Me” and “Gimme More.” The album was considered a success in both the music charts and among critics, with The Times calling it the fifth Best Pop Album of the Decade.

She released “Make Me...” and “Slumber Party” as singles off her latest album, Glory (2016), which is also her ninth studio album.

In 2013, she announced a two-year Las Vegas residency at Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino, with a show titled, Britney Spears: Piece of Me. It was so well-received that she extended her Planet Hollywood residency until 2017.

Thanks to its success, the show is now going on the road, debuting this summer in countries such as the Philippines and Israel. This tour will be her first since 2011’s Femme Fatale.
