ASEAN con­fer­ences on In­tel­lec­tual Prop­erty Pro­tec­tion start

THE PHILIP­PINES is host­ing two global in­tel­lec­tual prop­erty con­fer­ences that will tackle the sig­nif­i­cance and im­pact of in­tel­lec­tual prop­erty rights pro­tec­tion on the growth and devel­op­ment of ASEAN economies.

Today, April 20, the In­ter­na­tional As­so­ci­a­tion for the Pro­tec­tion of In­tel­lec­tual Prop­erty (AIPPI) will hold its 2nd AIPPI ASEAN Re­gional Meet­ing in co­op­er­a­tion with the In­tel­lec­tual Prop­erty As­so­ci­a­tion of the Philip­pines. Among the top­ics to be dis­cussed are on emerg­ing IP is­sues in the dig­i­tal age and IP-re­lated is­sues on the use of “clean & green” tech­nolo­gies.

On April 21 to 23, the Philip­pine Group of the ASEAN In­tel­lec­tual Prop­erty As­so­ci­a­tion (ASEAN- IPA) will be host­ing the 2017 ASEAN-IPA An­nual Con­fer­ence and Gen­eral Mem­ber­ship Meet­ing. Venue for both con­fer­ences is the Crowne Plaza Manila Gal­le­ria, Ho­tel, Or­ti­gas Cen­ter, Que­zon City.

The in­com­ing pres­i­dent of ASEAN-IPA, Atty. Aleli An­gela G. Quirino, ACCRALAW Of- Coun­sel, said: “The theme of this year’s Con­fer­ence is ‘IP in the ASEAN Re­gion in a Chang­ing Global Land­scape.’ The theme com­ple­ments the over­all theme of the ASEAN 50th Found­ing An­niver­sary: Part­ner­ing For Change, En­gag­ing The World. We ex­pect to har­ness the col­lab­o­ra­tion of all the ASEAN coun­tries in proac­tively pro­mot­ing in­tel­lec­tual prop­erty rights pro­tec­tion to ac­cel­er­ate the growth and devel­op­ment of busi­ness in ASEAN.”

Key lead­ers and prac­ti­tion­ers in the field of in­tel­lec­tual prop­erty rights pro­tec­tion and other re­lated fields from the ASEAN coun­tries, as well as other coun­tries in Asia and the Pa­cific re­gion, will par­tic­i­pate in th­ese events. Both events will fea­ture distin­guished in­ter­na­tional and lo­cal re­source speak­ers and pan­elists com­ing from both pub­lic and pri­vate sec­tors.
