Cinemalaya workshops deadline extended
THE DEADLINE for applications to the 3rd Cinemalaya Institute — a series of workshops on film — has been extended to April 28.
Experts will be teaching courses in feature-length screenplay writing, basic filmmaking, and cinematography from May 22 to June 30 at the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP).
Script development expert Sophia Wellington will teach Writing the Feature-Length Screenplay, which is designed for students with scriptwriting experience and with outlines or drafts of existing screenplays. At the end of the course, students will have a step outline and scenes to enable them to complete a draft of their feature screenplay. Ms. Wellington has taught screenwriting at many film schools including the London Film School and London Film Academy.
Award-winning film and theater director Carlos Siguion-Reyna will teach Basic Filmmaking: The Silent Film, a six-week course in directing which will include viewing of clips by master directors, basic reading, and classroom discussions. Towards the end of the course, each student will direct a seven-minute silent digital film.
William Tunnicliffe, a Graduate Film Department faculty at the New York University Tisch School of the Arts, will teach Cinematography, with lectures combined with in-class shooting exercises on a soundstage. Students with different levels of media experience will work together in crews, so that experienced and inexperienced students will both benefit from the practical, hands-on training. Classes meet in the studio space for six hours each day.
The Cinemalaya Institute is the training arm of the Cinemalaya Foundation, Inc. For inquiries, call CCP Media Arts Division at 8321125 local 1705.
