World-class MMA action in Puerto Galera

-

SUMMER IS just about to get hotter as Underground Battle MMA takes over Puerta Galera on April 28 and 29.

Dubbed as “UGB20: Rambulan sa Galera Beach Battle II,” mixed martial arts aficionados will get to witness world-class action from local and foreign fighters in the first MMA event to be held in the island. It is presented by Underground Battle MMA under Chief Executive Officer Ferdie Munsayac and supported by Puerto Galera Mayor Rockey Ilagan.

What makes the event different from other MMA events, according to Mr. Munsayac, is the Juego Todo — a hybrid of Filipino martial arts.

“Basically, it’s weaponized cage fighting. We take the Pinoy arnisadors, put them inside the cage and fight for three rounds with their sticks,” Mr. Munsayac said.

“We like being the first, we like thinking of innovations to up the level of MMA in the country,” added Mr. Munsayac.

Mr. Munsayac said the event is not for pro fighters alone, but also for those looking to get started on the local fight scene.

“It’s a good mixture of amateurs and pro- ams – from stables all over the country. We look at UGB as a gateway for Filipino fighters to make a stamp in the MMA scene,” Mr. Munsayac stated.

“UGB20: Rambulan sa Galera” is not just an MMA beach battle event in Puerto Galera. Through UGB and Mr. Ilagan’s efforts, the event also aims to help promote tourism in the province of Mindoro. The first of the two-day event will be one big beach party with the fighters’ weigh-ins and search for the next UGB round girl at sundown with entertainment provided by DJs.
