Going on an OPM nostalgia trip
PREPARE TO fall in love once again with timeless Filipino classics as the successful
#LoveThrowback 2 concert returns for a repeat performance on May 27 at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC).
The Valentine’s show which brought together musical artists from different decades is returning “due to insistent public demand,” according to the show’s producers, Royale Chimes Concerts & Events, Inc., during a press conference on May 16.
For one night you can be serenaded by Hajji Alejandro, who rose to fame in the 1970s and the ’ 80s thanks to his hits such as “May Minamahal,” “Nakapagtataka,” and “Kay Ganda ng Ating Musika,” among many others. He will be performing alongside Joey Generoso, now known as Joey G., formerly the lead singer of Side A, a pop band that rose to prominence in the same decade and is especially known for the single “Forevermore.”
Joining the lineup is Jinky Vidal of the band Freestyle, one of the more prominent pop/ rock/soul/R&B bands in the country during the 1990s and known for songs such as “So Slow” and “Before I Let You Go”; and Ariel Rivera, a recording artist who successfully transitioned into acting and is known for songs such as “Sana Kahit Minsan.”
Rounding out the list of artists are two musicians from the 2000s: Nina (real name: Nina Girado), known for songs such as “Someday” and “Sayang Naman”; and Christian Bautista whose best known songs include, “The Way You Look at Me,” “Colors Everywhere,” and “Hands to Heaven.”
“This is a long-term project and we’re thinking [ that in] a few — maybe five — years down the line, we can bring all the best known Filipino acts together to sing on one stage, maybe in Mall of Asia or Araneta,” said Calvin Murphy Neira of Royal Chimes.
He added that the concert series started in 2016 as a dream they had to see Original Pilipino Music ( OPM) singers from several decades to share a stage and evoke a feeling of nostalgia and, of course, love. # LoveThrowback 2 The Repeat will be held on May 27, 8:30 p.m. at the PICC, Pasay City.
