Customs seizes P105-M fake China-made goods

- Elijah Joseph C. Tubayan

THE BUREAU of Customs seized last Tuesday P105 million worth of fake household goods imported from China. According to Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service (CIIS) Director Neil Anthony Estrella, the operation was based on a three-month covert and vigorous surveillance work on the target. He said the CIIS acted on tips from brand owners whose products were being faked in China, then smuggled into the country by unscrupulous importers. The BoC said that the owners of the counterfeit items, all Chinese businessmen, have refused to receive the official copies of the Letter of Authority and Mission Order issued on May 9, that led to the issuance of a warrant of seizure and detention. The CIIS has effectively padlocked the warehouses while three other vans containing similar items are now under its custody. —
