Mark Lwin: Bringing on tomorrow for AIG Philippines
Focus and innovation are qualities that are almost second nature to Mark Lwin, President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of AIG Philippines Insurance, Inc.
A former US Marine Corps officer before joining the corporate world, Lwin has proven his chops having previously served as a Six Sigma Black Belt at a financial services unit of a multinational conglomerate.
His wealth of experience in strategic planning and execution has helped steer AIG Philippines in the past three years to its position as an industry leader in the non-life insurance market.
“We are committed to bringing the global capabilities of AIG to the Philippines through unique offerings which meet the specific needs of Philippine businesses,” Lwin said.
“AIG’s combination of global experience, familiarity of the industries driving the country’s growth, technical depth and expertise, innovative products, and strong financial capacity is what gives us the edge to help Philippine businesses with insurance solutions they need,” Lwin added.
Lwin, who is on his second posting in the Philippines, has previously spent six years in the country to lead various aspects of AIG’s shared services operations. Prior to that, he built and led AIG’s shared services organizations in Asia in various capacities for a decade.
At present, AIG, which has an eight decade-long history in the Philippines, has been ranked 6th out of 70 licensed non-life insurance companies in the country.
The company, along with its 4,500-strong employees led by Lwin, has become an enduring partner in the domestic marketplace in building resilient Filipino communities. The Philippines has one of the largest AIG employee populations in over 100 countries and jurisdictions that the insurer operates in. The headcount includes employees from AIG Shared Services BPO and AIG Shared Services Technology.

In a bid to expand AIG’s clout beyond financial services, Lwin, who also heads AIG Shared Services-Business Processing, Inc., has championed risk management and innovation in the Philippine business process outsourcing (BPO) industry.
While both businesses are unique and are at the opposite end of the spectrum in terms of operating model, Lwin’s distinct qualifications in Finance, Operations and Management allowed him to undertake the challenging dual roles.
As the lead chairperson and executive sponsor for AIG’s Corporate Social Responsibility efforts in the country, Lwin has steered the company to supporting disaster resilience programs, financial literacy education and community givingback programs with key partners such as Habitat for Humanity Philippines and Junior Achievement Philippines, among others.
It is a source of particular pride, Lwin said, to head AIG Philippines as it marks its 85th anniversary.
