Survey reveals need for higher whole grain consumption
MOST children in the Philippines are getting less than the recommended intake of whole grains according to the 8th National Nutrition Survey conducted by FNRI-DOST. The study revealed that despite the many health benefits associated with whole grains, which include better weight management and reduced risk of chronic diseases, only one in 20 children consume whole grain. It also showed that, overall, 99% of Filipinos do not consume 48g of whole grain per day which is the US whole grain intake recommendation. In response to these, Nestlé Philippines hosted an event that aimed to encourage families to add more whole grain to their daily nutrition for a healthier future. It also made whole grains the number one ingredient in all Nestlé Breakfast Cereals that are popular with kids and teens.
