Cebu mulls motorcycle lanes at SRP to minimize accidents
THE CEBU City Transportation Office (CCTO) wants to establish exclusive lanes for motorcycles at the South Road Properties (SRP) to minimize accidents involving these types of vehicles. CCTO Operations Chief Francisco Ouano said he will soon submit his proposal to the mayor and the city council for review. Mr. Ouano said they are still determining the exact number of motorcycles involved in the total number of accidents in the past two years, but an initial assessment indicates a big percentage. “There are a lot of accidents at the SRP, Mostly those involved are motorcycles,” he told The Freeman in Visayan. Within Cebu City, CCTO recorded 11,284 accidents in 2015, higher at 12,094 in 2016, and 3,979 from January to May this year. In 2014, there were 110 motorcycle accidents at SRP, out of the 245 total road accidents in the area.
