A Brown, Russian firm explore nuclear technology use
A BROWN Company, Inc. is partnering with a Russian firm to study the possibility of applying radiation technologies to the fields of agriculture and medicine as well as the peaceful use of atomic energy.
In a disclosure to the stock exchange, the listed firm said it has signed a memorandum of understanding ( MoU) with private institution Rusatom International Network ( RAIN) on June 20 during the International Forum at ATOMEXPO 2017 in Russia.
The agreement stipulates that the two parties will plan to develop an economic, scientific, and technical cooperation in the field of the peaceful use of atomic energy. Both parties will further conduct a series of activities that will raise public awareness about nuclear technologies and their application in the country.
The partnership looks to impact not only the Philippines but also neighboring countries.
RAIN President Alexander Merten said the MoU was among the agreements discussed during President Rodrigo R. Duterte’s state visit to Russia last May 25 where he met with his counterpart Vladimir Putin. “It opens up great prospects for mutually beneficial cooperation in the development of innovative technologies in the nuclear field,” Mr. Merten said in a statement.
For his part, A Brown President and Chief Executive Officer Roel Z. Castro said the agreement is aligned with the president’s platforms. “A Brown welcomes this new opportunity to come up with more diverse solutions toward the improvement of the lives and livelihoods of Filipinos... ( this is in alignment with) our company’s commitment to constantly explore business avenues that would facilitate nation- building,” he was quoted as saying in a statement.
RAIN is a noncommercial organization under Rosatom State Corp., a firm which decides on the “creation, development, and management of a network of regional centers.” With 11 regional centers under its helm, the company’s goal is to look for new possibilities to expand business by Russian organizations in the nuclear sector.
A Brown shares rose 1.23% to close at P1.64 each on Wednesday.
