A HIGHLY anticipated event by the local trail-running community, the 2017 edition of Salomon’s X-Trail Run Pilipinas happens on July 23 in Subic Bay Freeport Zone in Zambales.

Now on its sixth straight year of staging, Salomon is once again promising an enhanced trail-running experience that seasoned runners and newcomers can enjoy and appreciate.

For this year’s Salomon X-Trail Run a number of changes are being instituted to make it more exciting for participants.

Foremost of which is the event date which is a deviation from the summertime schedule in the past. Now done during the rainy season, organizers are angling for newer challenges for the runners from the various elements.

Gun time has also been moved so as to give runners more time to rest and prepare while it also has done away with road-to-trail run and making it all trail since most of the participants are doing the former on their own already.

Two categories are being offered in this year’s Trail Run, namely the Mountain Run and Fun Trail.

Mountain Run, organizers said, will have two distances — 24 km. and 32 km. — that will once again simulate the challenging ascents of Skyrunning races that Salomon is very much known for.

The run will feature technical ascents and varying terrain, including asphalt, sand and rocks, around Subic.

Participants in the Mountain Run will receive a Race Kit which will include a race bib, a timing chip, a Salomon X-Trail technical jersey, A Salomon Race Cap, and Post-Race meal and products from sponsors.

Gun start for the 32-km. run will be 8 a.m. while that for the 24 km. is 8:30 a.m. A cutoff time of five hours for the 24 km. and seven hours for the 32 km. are given with those beating the cutoff receiving a Finisher’s medal.

The Fun Trail, meanwhile, is a great introduction to trail running as well as for those with basic running experience who want to kick it up a notch, organizers said.

It will have distances of six and 12 kilometers with gun start at 1:30 p.m.

Fun Trail runners will receive a Race Kit which will also include a race bib, a timing chip, a Salomon X-Trail technical jersey, A Salomon Race Cap, and PostRace meal and products from sponsors.

Organizers are encouraging runners to make sure they are physically fit to participate with a medical clearance to back it up. Registration fees are pegged at P1,450 (24 km.) and P1,600 (32 km.) for the Mountain Run and P950 (6 km.) and P1,100 (12 km.) for the Fun Trail. Registration is until July 15 both in Salomon stores in the metro and online at www. salomonxtrailpilipinas.com.ph.

“We are happy with the way the X-Trail Run has grown throughout the years. When we started very few were into trail running but now it continues to grow and more people are taking on the challenge,” said Janice Tanada, Salomon Philippines Brand Manager, in an interview with BusinessWorld on the sidelines of the event launch on Wednesday at the R.O. X. store in Bonifacio High Street in Taguig City.

“The event has complemented the Salomon brand very well as it has underscored our standing as a brand truly dedicated to trail running. We are not here to just make money and sell our products but we, in our organization, love trail running and want to continue cultivating the community and further grow it. We are runners ourselves and feel what other runners are feeling. That’s what makes us different,” Ms. Tanada added.
