Nagcarlan, Meralco pave way for strategic partnerships
The municipal government of Nagcarlan in Laguna recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Meralco to seal an agreement to strengthen partnerships under the latter’s Energizing Partnerships Program (EPP). Meralco’s partnerships with LGUs are patterned after the ‘PublicPrivate Partnerships’ or PPP growth model, and are aligned with Meralco Chairman Manny V. Pangilinan’s mandate for the power utility to work closely with LGU partners to uplift the lives of the Filipino people.
“We at Meralco need the local government’s support to achieve our goals because we serve the same people. All plans have been laid out for us to be able to support the locality of Nagcarlan, including disaster preparedness and fire safety and prevention,” said Meralco head of Home and Microbiz ( HMB) – South Business Area Ferdinand O. Geluz.
Nagcarlan Mayor Eusebio Osuna said in his speech that the MoU signing is a welcome activity as it creates mutual understanding and cooperation between Meralco and the LGU for the benefit of the people and the municipality. “Meralco is part of our daily lives. We are further counting on Meralco for the electrification of all our barangays as well as the rehabilitation of our community facilities like our public markets,” he said.
For her part, Vice Mayor Amelia Hernandez said the EPP partnership is a milestone for Nagcarlan: “Meralco will help us go down to the barangays that still need electricity as it is trained to act on customer requirements. It is indeed our partner in progress as we become known as “yung bayan na lumiwanag sa tulong ng Meralco (a town that is bright because of Meralco)”.
