SCG marks 10 years of helping Filipino scholars
SCG, a leading ASEAN conglomerate advocating for sustainability, marked a new milestone as it celebrated the 10th anniversary of Sharing the Dream program in the Philippines in an event held at the Asian Center Auditorium of the University of the Philippines Diliman, Quezon City.
Over the course of Sharing the Dream’s 10-year run, SCG partnered with the Philippine Business for Social Progress (PBSP) in providing educational and financial assistance to more than 1,400 students from SCG subsidiary areas such as Tondo, Batangas, Bulacan, and Taguig.
For its 10th anniversary, SCG increased the number of its scholars to support 300 Filipino high school students, twice the number of scholars they provided when the program was first initiated in the country. Through this move, SCG hopes to continue opening up doors for more students, making it possible for them to pursue their dream and help their families.
Phaskorn Buranawit, country director of SCG in the Philippines, said: “During the 10-year course of SCG Sharing the Dream program, we witnessed many stories of scholars who have now been successful in their career and have also become a crucial part of the country’s development. This program has allowed SCG to help improve the quality of life of people in communities and help empower the youths by providing them with opportunities to pursue higher education and become valuable members of society in the future.”
“On behalf of SCG, I would like to congratulate our new batch of 300 young scholars. Just as we have believed in our former scholars and witnessed their success during past years, we believe that they all deserve a bright future along with their families through hard work and determination. We also believe that great dedication will lead them to great achievements and become future contributors of the Philippines,” he added.
The scholarship program is not only limited to educational and financial assistance for students. Life skills workshops are also in place to ensure a holistic progress wherein scholars are engaged through sessions of values education, personality development, and financial literacy. These specific sessions are geared towards helping students find their preferred career path upon completion of the program. A recognition day is also organized to honor their excellence and perseverance, and to encourage better performance among the scholars.
H.E. Thanatip Upatising, ambassador of the Kingdom of Thailand to the Republic of the Philippines, lauded SCG’s program by saying: “I personally admire SCG’s efforts and commitment to its SCG Sharing the Dream Project. On its 10th anniversary, this scholarship awards has proved that access to education plays a tremendous part in fulfilling the dreams of individuals and families.”
