THE ROAD Engineering Association of the Philippines ( REAP) opens today, July 19, its three- day National Convention with a theme: “Innovative Technologies for Safer Roads” in Pasay City.

REAP National President and Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Undersecretary Romeo S. Momo said this year’s convention which will have DPWH Secretary Mark A. Villar as the keynote speaker is expected to gather around 1500 members and guests from the public and private sector.

“With the DPWH as the key player in the attainment of the country’s Golden Age of Infrastructure, the agency relies on the technical know-how of our skilled employees and partners in the road sector — especially REAP, in assuring that our major final outputs are state- of-the-art and guaranteed safe,” said Mr. Momo.

“I expect this event to be a worthy engagement of mind mapping, skills-sharing, and capacity building among road engineers for the attainment of our shared mission — to provide safer roads for our people,” he added.

The three- day event will involve meetings with the Road Engineering Association of Asia and Australasia (REAAA) Philippine Chapter, and series of discussion and sharing on safety, innovative engineering solutions, and international standards on infrastructure facilities which will be held at Mariott Hotel Grand Ballroom, Pasay City, and a golf tournament at Villamor Golf Club, Villamor Airbase, Pasay City.

REAP has invited experts to give an overview of the Recent Earthquake-Proof Building Design in Japan, Tunneling, Geo Tube Containment Dike for Coastal Highway Land Reclamation and Flood Control Mitigation; Slope Protection; and Road Safety among others.

“I hope that the leadership of REAP will carry out the vision of the administration to “Build, Build, Build” more vital infrastructure that will serve as the back bone of the Duterte administration’s socioeconomic agenda and bring forth the inclusive development that we all aspire for every Filipino,” said Mr. Villar.
