Batang Gilas Pascual to play for La Salle Zobel

-

MIGS PASCUAL is one player La Salle Zobel coach Boris Aldeguer envisions as the future quarterback of his team.

Transferring from San Beda to La Salle Zobel was like a dream come true for the young Pascual, according to his dad Edmon.

“Even before, he wants to play in the UAAP,” said the elder Pascual. “He is hoping this could be a stepladder to his ambition of playing for the La Salle Green Archers in the near future.”

The 16-year- old point guard who saw action with fellow La Salle Zobel teammates RC Calimag and Raven Cortez, with the Batang Gilas under-16 team in the recent SEABA Championship, will be bringing in his deadly shooting touch from the perimeter and his steadiness to play the point guard spot to give stability in the backcourt of the Junior Archers.

“That’s one of the reasons why we got him. We know that he’s deadly three-point shooter and he already has the leadership skills,” Mr. Aldeguer told BusinessWorld in a telephone interview. “He’ll be playing for (La Salle Zobel) for the next three years and by the time he reached his third year, his level of play will be very high.”

Meantime, Pascual, according to Mr. Aldeguer, will be playing as the second point guard after Prince Carlos, who came in a year earlier.

“A lot of my point guards will be graduating, so this is a good transition for us. Having Migs will mean our point guard spot will be steady and the team will be in good hands,” added Mr. Aldeguer.

Pascual’s inclusion in the Batang Gilas team has exposed him in international basketball at an early age and this is a good step towards his basketball career.

“Being exposed in international basketball at an early age is good for Migs’ career,” added Mr. Aldeguer. “To be included in the national team means they see something special in him.”

True enough, Pascual is a special player and he’s someone every coach would want to have on his team.

Batang Gilas coach Mike Oliver was impressed at the way Pascual played, including his ability to keep a hold of his teammates.

“He’s a leader,” added Mr. Oliver. “In fact, he’s a co-captain of Renz Padrigao and together, they were able to lead our team.” —
