Rain or Shine Elasto Painters trade away Jeff Chan

- Michael Angelo S. Murillo

LONGTIME Rain or Shine (ROS) Elasto Painters player Jeff Chan is heading to the Phoenix Petroleum Fuel Masters after being dealt away yesterday.

In trade papers submitted to the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Commissioner’s Office, Mr. Chan, who played for nearly eight years for Rain or Shine, was to be shipped out to Phoenix for Mark Borboran and the Fuel Masters’ second-round pick in the upcoming PBA rookie draft.

Selected 17th overall in the 2008 draft out of Far Eastern University, Mr. Chan successfully made a solid career in the PBA while playing for Rain or Shine, including being noticed and selected for the Gilas Pilipinas team. He was also part of two ROS champion teams.

In numbers ending last season, the sweet- shooting Chan averaged 10.9 points for the Elasto Painters during his stay.

In the ongoing PBA Governors’ Cup, 33-year-old Chan has been averaging nine points and 1.7 assists in 23 minutes on the floor in three games for Rain or Shine (1-2).

Now with Phoenix, he is expected to provide leadership and clutch shooting as the Fuel Masters continue to build legs in their young PBA existence.

By getting Phoenix’s draft pick, on the other hand, Rain or Shine gets the opportunity to infuse fresh talents, including its own pick, to its rosters as it gears itself up moving forward.

The other player in the trade, Mr. Borboran, for his part, is a nine-year PBA player is currently averaging 2.8 points and 2.4 rebounds in the Governors’ Cup.
