Meralco and Navotas City sign MOU to energize partnerships
Navotas City recently signed a memorandum of understanding for Meralco’s Energizing Partnerships Program (EPP) to forge ahead with strategic initiatives with the country’s largest power utility. The EPP formalizes Meralco’s full commitment to work with local government units (LGUs) to meet their growing energy demands and spur economic development.
Navotas City Mayor John Reynald M. Tiangco said that Navotas needs the support of private sector partners like Meralco to augment the services that the LGU extends to its customers. The LGU’s partnerships with Meralco have brought about positive changes like eradicating illegal connections and providing legitimate electricity service to informal settlers. Navotas residents are now equipped with disaster preparedness skills during fires and earthquakes, also with the help of Meralco.
Meralco Vice President and Head of Home and Microbiz-North Business Area Ferdinand C. Alejandro, for his part, underscored that the signing will further solidify its collaborations with the Navotas LGU. These include the TextJRT program of the LGU, which offers a 24/7 hotline for reporting all city-related concerns including illegal connections and other Meralco-related problems, as well as the five-year plan to clean up the city’s electrical wires to ensure the safety of residents.
