Enjoying tea and art

-

THE PENINSULA MANILA has created an immersive tea experience with The Well Appointed Life Afternoon Tea which is inspired by the rare and precious objects of beauty up for bid during Salcedo Auctions’ The Well Appointed Life at The Peninsula.

The auction features four sales categories: Important Philippine Art ( featuring works by masters such as National Artists Fernando Amorsolo and Benedicto “BenCab” Cabrera and contemporary works by the likes of Jose John Santos III and Rodel Tapaya), Connoisseur Collection (fine furniture, objets d’art, haute couture, international artworks, rare books, and valuable maps), Fine Jewelry & Timepieces ( investmentgrade diamond and statement colored gemstone pieces and watches from the world’s leading makers), and Rare Automobiles ( collectible European and American motorcars).

The 500 lots up for bids are currently on exhibit at the hotel’s third floor Gallery until Sept. 23, 2017. The auction itself will be held on Sept. 23 and 24 at the Rigodon Ballroom.

To celebrate the occasion, the hotel has been offering a special Afternoon Tea at The Lobby for the entire month.

Executive pastry chef Xavier Castello and his team have created an immersive experience with The Well Appointed Life Afternoon Tea that is inspired by the colors and textures of the paintings, sculptures, and other pieces in the auction. These include Grand Marnier chocolate tart and caramel–milk chocolate relegieuse; mango cheesecake and queso de bola macarons; grilled zucchini, hummus, red pepper, and balsamic onion turkey salad; spinach and goat cheese quiche; celery, onion, tomato bread and salmon roulade; and many others.

The Well Appointed Life Afternoon Tea is available at P995 per guest or P1,680 with a flute of champagne.

It is served daily throughout the month of September from 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. with the addition of the Traditional Philippine Merienda Buffet from Fridays through Sundays.

The hotel is giving its guests another opportunity to immerse themselves in artfilled activities with The Well Appointed Life Culinary Journey of The Peninsula Manila’s most iconic restaurants — Salon de Ning, Spices, Old Manila and The Lobby — and their art collections for P3,000 (exclusive of taxes).

The Peninsula Manila has been a longtime supporter of the arts. Over the last 41 years, it has assembled a sizable collection by some of the most notable names in Philippine art, including Ang Kiukok, Malang, and BenCab. But the jewel in its collection is probably National Artist Napoleon Abueva’s monumental “Sunburst” sculpture that crowns the Lobby’s soaring atrium.

There is also The Well Appointed Life Package which offers an overnight stay that includes a private guided tour of the 500 lots that will go under the hammer, a culinary journey, and preregistration and reserved seating to the two-day auction. Overnight room rates start at P12,500.
