- Michael Angelo S. Murillo

CERES-Negros FC continued to advance in the Philippines Football League (PFL), gaining another three full points from its 1-0 win over Global Cebu FC in Sunday league action at the Pana-ad Park and Football Stadium in Bacolod City.

Currently at fourth place in the standings of the newly created national football league, Ceres improved to 10- 2- 3 with 32 points, just two points behind its conquered Global ( 9-7- 5) with still more games to play than the rest of the pack.

Stephan Shrock (79’) provided the marginal goal late in the game that saw the two teams labor throughout the contest.

“It was very difficult to score especially if you came from a midweek game,” said Ceres coach Risto Vidakovic after their victory.

“I was really happy when we scored the goal because we deserved it,” he added.

Ceres returns to action on Sept. 30 versus Ilocos United FC, which won for the first time in the PFL at the weekend.

Global, meanwhile, will be back on Oct. 15 against JPV Marikina FC.

FC Meralco Manila ( 135-2) continues to lead in the PFL standings with 44 points followed by Kaya FC-Makati (11-5-6) with 38.

In the PFL, tournament format calls for the top four teams at the end of classification play advancing to the next round. —
