Popular Asian MOBA game set for Philippine release

-

AS further testament to the thriving e-sports scene in the Philippines, the developers of one of the leading mobile games in the Asia-Pacific have decided to tap into the local market and engage the country’s passionate digital gamers.

Arena of Valor (AOV), a 5v5 Multiplayer Online Battle Arena (MOBA) that is designed for easy control on one’s mobile phone, is set for release in the country this month, its developers Garena and Tencent Games had said.

Released in October last year in Taiwan, AOV has since seen its popularity grow upon its introduction in Southeast Asian countries like Thailand, Vietnam and Indonesia. Developers are now looking to add the Philippines to AOV’s growing market. “We are excited to launch Arena

of Valor in the Philippines as Asia represents a multi-billion-dollar gaming industry with 80% of its gamers playing mobile games,” said Jan Frederic Chiong, Country Manager for Garena Philippines, in a statement shared to Business World.

“As a game publisher, Garena has spearheaded various top-tier titles across Southeast Asia to great effect. As we welcome the latest addition to our growing list, we aim for AOV to be

positioned as the best mobile experience for gamers in the Philippines,” the Garena official added.

AOV is available on both the App Store and Play Store. The game is currently in a pre-registration phase which can be done at https://moba. garena.com.

When the game is officially released, players will be able to acquire up to 14 permanent heroes for free. Completing the tutorial alone will grant players 2 free heroes, all within the first 20 minutes of game play.

Players will then be set upon the Road to Glory quest that will see them acquire another eight free champions just by playing three games for each of them. The remaining four heroes can be obtained simply by playing with friends.

As added proof of AOV’s growing stature as an e-sports offering, the game is being played across all levels, from grassroots tournaments of international corporations, professional gaming tournaments by Garena and global events between North America, Europe, Korea, Middle East, Garena said.

Garena is a Singapore-based company founded in 2009. It has steadily increased its stock in the industry and has attracted major stakeholders, including Tencent.
