MORE than 300 participants and foreign players are set to compete in the first Chief Philippine National Police (PNP) Bato Cup Battle of the Champions Table Tennis Championships presented by San Miguel Corp. (SMC) on Oct. 27 to 29 at the Garden Square in Harrison Plaza in Malate, Manila.

Eight elite teams composed of Table Tennis Association of North District (TATAND), Hua Ching Foundation, Philippine Air Force (PAF), University of Cebu (UC), Star Paper Corp., Omila Sports Academy, PNP Table Tennis Club and Awei are going to compete in the battle of the champions division.

“We are expecting more participants including foreign players from Japan, China, London, Malaysia and Korea that will challenge the Filipino players. Aside from foreign participants, players from the Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao regions are also there to compete,” says Organizing Committee Chairman PSSupt. Michael John F Dubria.

Aside from the battle of the champions event supported by the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC), the other divisions are the men and women’s school/government agencies teams, Liha team, men’s and women’s singles and Executive event for Law Enforcement/Military and team managers.

With this first Bato Cup, we hope to give our share in national efforts to further encourage interest in table tennis as a sport among our youth and thus help them steer them away against illegal drugs and other nefarious activities that may ruin their lives and rob them of a brighter future,” says Police Director General Chief, PNP Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa.

The three-day competition is supported by PSSLAI, Emperador, Trust Trade, PRO Regional Directors and PNP Finance Service.

Trophies and a total of P300,000 cash prizes will be given away to the winners.
