Robinsons stores now offering WeChat Pay service

ROBINSONS Retail Holdings, Inc. (RRHI), the second-largest multi-format retailer in the country, has joined the growing list of merchants that Asia United Bank (AUB) accredited to accept mobile payments via WeChat Pay.

The following stores in Robinsons Place Manila in Ermita Manila have started offering WeChat Pay: Robinsons Department Store, Robinsons Supermarket, Handyman, Robinsons Appliances, Toys “R” Us and Daiso Japan.

WeChat Pay is the mobile wallet inside Chinese social messaging app WeChat, which allows Chinese tourists in the Philippines to seamlessly and conveniently make cross-border payments. AUB PayMate, the mobileapp, launched by AUB in the country last December 2017, offers a fast, secure, convenient way for the merchants to accept payments for shopping, dining, hotel as well as other tourism-related payment activities of the Chinese visitors.

“This safe, novel payment channel is a real game changer in the increasingly digitized retail landscape. Merchants should not miss out on the opportunity if they want to grow and better access their respective markets,” said Mags Surtida, head of AUB Credit Cards Business.

WeChat Pay-accredited merchants are eyeing the influx of 1.5 million tourists from Mainland China projected by the Department of Tourism (DoT) to arrive in the country this year.
