Apl de Ap, Thames school to offer scholarships for Davao City creative industry
MUSICIAN ALLAN Pineda Lindo, popularly known as Apl de Ap of multi-awarded pop group Black Eyed Peas, and officials of the Thames International Business School have expressed intention to help the creative industry of Davao City by offering scholarships for both undergraduates and creative professionals. Mr. Lindo, together with Thames International President Jaime Noel J. Santos and Chancellor John Batten met with more than 60 creative professionals in the fields of fashion, theater, television, marketing, visual arts, among others, during a recent visit to the city. “I got to spend a few days here and met over 60 people yesterday and had an amazing questions and ideas and that motivates me more to advocate for change and progress and the creative industry because I am a beneficiary of the industry,” said Mr. Lindo in a press conference at Marco Polo Davao. Mr. Batten, for his part, said, “We met people from fashion and theater, TV, marketing, online, dance, visual arts, advertising, designs. We learned so many barriers and we learned a lot from each other. However, we believe that education is the key.” The assistance will be made through the newly-launched Creative Innovators Programme, which is a collaboration between Thames International, the Apl de Ap Foundation, British Council, and the Department of Trade and Industry along with its attached agencies Design Center of the Philippines and the Philippine Trade and Training Center. —
