DENR to use GIS-based mapping to settle land disputes in Marawi
AUTONOMOUS REGION IN MUSLIM MINDANAO: MARAWI CITY, LANAO DEL SUR
THE DEPARTMENT of Environment and Natural Resources ( DENR) will be using the geographic information system (GIS)- based mapping and information system to settle land disputes amid the government’s efforts to rebuild war- torn Marawi City. In a statement issued over the weekend, DENR Secretary Roy A. Cimatu said this system, which promotes “environmental peace- building” can help re- establish both technical and physical land boundaries for public and private land. “Properties in both private and public land, formal and informal settlement descriptions and delineations in the most affected areas and other surrounding areas of Marawi City will also be included in the land mapping to collect information,” he added. — Anna Gabriela A.
