Singapore as a choice destination: New attractions at Changi Airport
TERMINAL 4
The newest terminal at Changi Airport, Terminal 4, opened in 2017. Besides adding new terminal capacity of 16 million passengers per annum (mppa) to Changi Airport, Terminal 4 also introduced a full suite of self-service options at key passenger touch points, from check-in to bag drop to immigration clearance to boarding. Terminal 4 is also a test bed for new innovations such as high-tech security screening equipment like advanced body scanners and X-ray machines which do not require passengers to divest of electronics including laptops.
Passengers passing through Terminal 4 will be able to experience the cultural offerings in the Peranakan Gallery in the departure transit zone of Terminal 4’s Heritage zone. The Peranakans are known for their vibrant and interesting culture that is showcased through customs, cuisine, language and prolific use of colors, as a result of generations of immigrants living side by side with indigenous communities in port cities across Southeast Asia. Visitors to the gallery will have the opportunity to discover and learn about the rich Peranakan culture in Singapore.
JEWEL CHANGI AIRPORT
To further elevate the Changi Experience, Jewel Changi Airport, scheduled to open in early 2019, will offer a refreshing lineup of unique lifestyle offerings.
Located at Jewel’s topmost level, the Canopy Park will feature three iconic attractions that blend into lush greenery — Sky Nets, Canopy Mazes and Discovery Slide. In addition, open areas will allow children to wander amidst the greenery in the park. One such area, Foggy Bowls, will incorporate mist to simulate the experience of playing amongst clouds.
Heightening Singapore’s reputation as a City in a Garden, Jewel will house one of the country’s largest indoor plant collections, with Canopy Park boasting over 1,400 trees and palms. Nestled amongst winding walkways, the Topiary Walk will surprise visitors with its animal-shaped topiaries at every turn, while the Petal Garden will showcase seasonal floral displays.
The highlight of Canopy Park is the 50-meter long Canopy Bridge, which provides visitors with an excellent vantage point to enjoy the breathtaking 40-meter high Rain Vortex, which is slated to be the world’s tallest indoor waterfall. Suspended 23 meters above ground, the Canopy Bridge will incorporate glass panel flooring in its center portion for visitors to look right through to the ground floor of Jewel.
With these unique offerings, Jewel promises to be a signature destination where “Singapore meets the World, and the World meets Singapore,” and will strengthen Changi Airport’s appeal as one of the world’s leading air hubs.
CHANGI EAST AND TERMINAL 5 Located to the east of existing Changi Airport, on 1,080 hectares of land, Changi East — comprising a new three-runway system, a network of 18 kilometer-long inter- and intra-terminal tunnels, and a new Terminal 5 — is a significant part of Changi Airport’s long-term master plan.
Changi Airport was the world’s sixth busiest airport (in terms of international traffic) in 2017. Changi East represents our bold vision and plans to secure the future and competitiveness of Changi Airport.
In the first phase, Terminal 5 will provide an additional capacity of up to 50 mppa and more than 100 aircraft parking stands by around 2030. Passengers can also look forward to enjoying a higher standard of the unique Changi Experience, as well as more flight choices and destinations when Terminal 5 is completed.
