Trillanes moves for inquiry into projects linked to Go’s family

- Camille A. Aguinaldo

SENATOR ANTONIO F. Trillanes IV on Wednesday filed a resolution calling for an investigation into the public works projects allegedly secured by firms owned by relatives of Special Assistant to the President Christopher Lawrence T. Go.

Senate Resolution No. 889 directs the Senate committee on civil service, government reorganization and professional regulation, which Mr. Trillanes chairs, to conduct the inquiry.

“We will investigate the contracts the family of Bong Go got in the amount of billions of pesos. Of all the contractors in Davao region, it was the companies owned by the family of the Special Assistant of the President that cornered the billions of pesos (worth of contracts),” Mr. Trillanes said at a press briefing.

The resolution cited the report of the Philippine Center for Investigative Journalism (PCIJ) on Sept. 6, showing that contractors linked to Mr. Go’s family in the Davao region took on civil works projects that remained unfinished past their completion deadlines.

The contractors in question, CLTG Builders and Alfrego Builders, were said to be owned by the father and brother-in-law of Mr. Go. PCIJ pointed out that CLTG’s joint venture projects in 2017 with a total worth of P2.73 billion failed to be completed within their deadlines.

The resolution also cited Article 7, Section 13 of the 1987 Constitution, which prohibits the president, the vice president, Cabinet members, and their deputies and assistants from doing business with the government. It also mentioned Republic Act No. 6713 or the Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards for Public Officials and Employees which directs government personnel to avoid conflict of interest. —
