The Manila Electric Company (Meralco) recently convened with San Juan local government unit (LGU) executives in a Strategic Planning session that serves as the culmination of a series of collaborative planning activities between San Juan and the distribution utility. These activities were aimed at ensuring that Meralco meets the city’s needs in terms of power adequacy and reliability and that the city’s future plans for its constituents are realized. San Juan Mayor Guia Gomez thanked Meralco for being an active partner of the city, and expressed confidence that both the LGU and the power utility are aligned to provide programs not only to address the electrification needs of the city but also for Meralco to extend its support in the LGU’s other ongoing and future programs. Specifically, the LGU is partnering with Meralco in exploring the installation of solar photovoltaic system in San Juan Medical Center and new San Juan City Hall of Justice through Meralco’s solar power subsidiary, Spectrum; and the planned rollout of charging stations for electric vehicles (EV) through the distribution utility’s EV ventures arm, e-Sakay. San Juan is also partnering with Meralco for the further installation of street lights within the city, as well as in supporting the power requirements of new and/or improved community infrastructures including elementary and secondary schools, the City Hall of Justice, Multi-purpose building, Livelihood Center, Progresso Pumping Station, All-hazards Evacuation Center, among others.
